St. Maarten Chamber of Commerce and Industry Executive Director Claret Connor will be this Saturday’s reader for the weekly Story Time for children at Philipsburg Jubilee Library starting at 11:00am. He will read Mushroom in the Rain by Mira Ginsburg, a book from the library’s collection. The story illustrates a lesson in elementary science and centres on a number of animals sheltering under one mushroom.

Connor said in a press statement, “I know how important reading is to the development of every child. I feel honoured to share my time reading to the children at the library.” He was asked to be a reader by his godson Cristoff Chintaman-Peterson, who is a regular attendee of Story Time.

Story Time coordinator Joseanne Peterson and Lysandra William have been volunteering their time for this project since January.

The number of children attending Story Time has “grown substantially,” said Peterson. Parents are attending the Story Time with their children. “This is a very positive development, since our aim is to encourage parents to play an active role in developing their children’s interest in reading.”After the story telling, children are engaged in arts and crafts and are provided with fruit cups as a snack.

Supporting Story Time are Afoo Supermarket, Manrique Capriles and Office World.
