FROM SCARF TO HEAD TIE—COMMON TRADITION
Dear participantThank you for registering for the Head Tie workshop. During this workshop you will hear sto- ries such as the meaning of some of the scarfs and models, and the rea-sons why they were designed. You will also get a live demonstration about the traditional way to starch (stiffen) the scarf. The best part of the workshop is that the majority of the time you will learn how to tie your own scarf into beautiful models. There are many different models and we will not be able to teach you how to tie all of them on one day, but you will learn the basics and ways to modify and make your own applications. We know This will trigger your creativity to even de- sign your own creations.

Instructions for the workshop:COME WITH YOUR OWN SCARF(S);The more scarfs you have with you the more models you can tie during the workshop.

The measurements of a scarf can vary from 90 cm to 1 meter in a square; 1,15 meters in a square is big, but can also be used in a square (this is the usual width of material you will find in a store). Your material MUST be COTTON.

INSTRUCTORS: CENAIDA VAN DINTER, CURACAO; JARITHA HOOGDORP, SURINAME; OUR CREATION,St MAARTEN ART AND CRAFT FOUNDATION. COME WITH STRAIGHT SEWING PINS. You need them to keep the folds in place.

It is recommended that you BRING YOUR OWN SCARF with you, so that you get to go home with your own head tie which you can use for different occasions such as 1 July, Emancipation Day, 10 October, Constitution Day, 11 November, Sint Maarten Day or 25 No- vember Independence Day Suriname.

During the workshop, you will learn how to starch your scarf, but it is advisable to come to the workshop with a scarf that is already starched.
