Mini symposium and expo on Suriname independence at the library

This Friday at 7 pm a mini symposium will be held in the Philipsburg Jubilee Library in honor of the anniversary of the independence of Suriname. Suriname became an independent country on November 25th, 1975 and this year will mark the fortieth anniversary of its independence.

Under the slogan “Celebrating 40 years republic of Suriname : sharing lessons learned with St Maarten”, the symposium will focus on how Sint Maarten, as a young nation, can learn from Suriname. Participants will discuss how to share the lessons learned from the independence of Suriname with Sint Maarten and the way forward for nation Sint Maarten. The panelists of the symposium will be Drs. Ragoebarsing, Economist and former minister of Development, Cooperation and Planning in Suriname, Dr. Rhoda Arrindell, educator and board member of the Independence for St. Maarten foundation and Mr. R. Groeneveld, attorney at law. On the same evening a mini expo themed “Unity through Diversity” about 40 years republic of Suriname will be opened at the library.
