There is something mysterious happening on Turtle Island… and it is calling all young adventurers to the Sint Maarten Library!
As part of 2025 Hurricane Awareness Month, the library proudly presented a magical children’s book that is making big waves: The Mystery of Turtle Island by Terry J. Peterson (aka Terre).
With a mix of fun, mystery, and heart, this story follows four brave turtle best friends—Dawn, Lani, Paton, and Terre—on a wild journey to find their families after a hurricane changes everything. Along the way, they discover the true meaning of friendship, perseverance, and courage—while learning how nature, animals, and people are all connected within one incredible ecosystem.
Stephen King once said, “Books are a uniquely portable magic,”—and now, that magic continues at the Sint Maarten Library, where four special copies of The Mystery of Turtle Island have officially joined the collection. This exciting story is waiting for curious readers like YOU to borrow, enjoy, and share the adventure!
The book’s author, Terre—who is also a motivational speaker, father, educator, and proud native of St. Lucia and St. Martin—made an exciting visit to all three Sint Maarten Library locations, Philipsburg, Cay Hill, and Belvedere.
During his three-day Book Talk Tour, he engaged with 73 children from local after-school programs, including Hillside Christian School, Belvedere Community Foundation, and No Kidding with Our Kids Foundation. Together, they explored sea turtle facts, solved puzzles, colored their way through adventure, and left feeling inspired by a live reading straight from the author himself!
And, that is not all! Terre also brought the magic to screens everywhere during a Virtual Storytime—sharing a heartwarming reading of The Mystery of Turtle Island and inviting the whole community to explore the power of books and storytelling.
