A digital citizen uses information technology (IT) to engage in society, politics, and government. As life continues evolving, technology has become a valuable tool in one’s daily life. Especially the older generation runs the risk of being left behind in this development.
Digital citizenship
The Sint Maarten library continues to inform patrons of the benefits and safe ways of reading through technology.

Since 2015 the Sint Maarten Library has been organizing a senior cyber program.

Starting March 07th, the senior cyber computer classes will be held at the Belvedere satellite for two days per week beginning, March 07th, 2023, until June 30th, every Tuesday and Friday, 9.00 am- 12.00 pm; the program will be approximately 7-8 weeks. There is a program for beginners and one for advanced.

Since 2013, cardholders of the Sint Maarten Library can borrow ebooks. Our e-books collection consists of digital books and audiobooks.

The ebook collection is provided by the US-based company Overdrive. Our digital library consists of 3,000 (mainly English) digital books, and the digital collection of the National Library of the Netherlands (KB) consists of 100.000 (primarily Dutch) digital items, which our cardholders also can borrow. We have reserved access codes for 150 adults and 250 juveniles from Kingdom Library (KB).

The program focuses on practical technology usage but also includes a comprehensive understanding of digital citizenship, which is the appropriate and responsible behavior when using technology. Since digital citizenship evaluates the quality of an individual's response to membership in a digital community, it often requires the participation of all community members, both visible and those who are less visible. A large part of being a responsible digital citizen encompasses digital literacy, etiquette, online safety, and an acknowledgment of private versus public information.
