Enid Gregory-Van Putten Featured in Black History Month 2026 Literary Figures Series
As part of Sint Maarten Library’s Passing on Our Legacy Black History Month 2026 Observance, which celebrates literary figures
from the African Diaspora and Sint Maarten, educator and author Enid Gregory-Van Putten is featured in an exclusive interview with
Claudia Connor. The discussion highlights her personal journey, her work, and other notable figures regionally and internationally
within the African Diaspora.

Enid Gregory-Van Putten has been a dedicated educator and writer in Sint Maarten for most of her adult life. As a mathematics
teacher, she fosters academic growth, critical thinking, and cultural awareness among her students. Beyond the classroom, she develops educational resources that support learning while celebrating the rich heritage of her community.

Her debut book, Black Beacons: Inventors Illuminating the Path, showcases the achievements of Black innovators whose
contributions have often been overlooked. Through her writing, Enid aims to inspire young readers and contribute meaningfully to the literary and cultural landscape of Sint Maarten.
Claudia Connor, an educator from St. Maarten with nearly 30 years of experience, brings her expertise in teaching and reading
specialization to the interview.

A graduate of the Methodist Agogic Center (MAC) and St. Maarten Academy, she also pursued teacher training at the University of St. Maarten and the University of the Virgin Islands. Her career spans classroom teaching and various educational leadership roles, emphasizing adaptability, lifelong learning, and evolving education to meet future needs while preserving foundational skills.

This interview is part of the library’s daily Black History Month series, highlighting outstanding contributors from the African
Diaspora and Sint Maarten, offering audiences inspiration and insight into Black excellence.
