From Pages to Memories: Cyber Seniors Reconnect with Sint Maarten through Books

Cyber seniors turned the pages of local literature and memories came to life during a special “Book Dating” reading session held at the Sint Maarten Library’s Belvedere Satellite Library as
part of the 2026 “Drop Everything and Read” initiative.
The session, facilitated by Librarians M. Powell and J. Lambert, invited participants to browse a selection of works by local authors, choose books that caught their interest, and share why they selected them.

What began as a reading activity soon became a journey through memories of Sint Maarten. The books sparked lively conversations about people, places, traditions, and everyday island life from decades past, allowing participants to reflect on experiences that have shaped the island’s history and community.

The activity demonstrated how books could serve as more than a source of entertainment or information. They can preserve personal and cultural memories, encourage conversations
between generations, and create opportunities for people to reconnect with their heritage.

The Cyber Seniors “Book Dating” session formed part of the Sint Maarten Library’s 2026 “Drop Everything and Read” initiative, which promotes literacy and reading across generations while
