In celebration of International Women’s Day, the Sint Maarten Library is proudly shining a well-deserved spotlight on the remarkable women whose stories, poetry, and cultural reflections have helped shape the very soul of our island.
This special literary showcase features a powerful and diverse collection of works by women authors of Sint Maarten, spanning generations and genres. From poetry that captures the island’s heartbeat, to fiction that explores its spirit, to works that preserve our history, inform our politics, nurture young minds, and inspire community pride — each voice adds a vibrant thread to the rich tapestry of our cultural identity.
Visitors will find treasured titles Fiction and Non Fiction such as Mulberry EgstorfPantophlet’s A Different Stick o’ Fire, Dr. Erna-mea Francis’s Love Is Forever, and Secret Pains: identifying and overcoming unresolved inner pains and anger from parental abandonment by Judith G. Arndell, Psy.D. Drs. Gracita R. Arrindell Looking Back to move forward: speeches from the forum of former Prime Ministers of the Netherlands Antilles,Ruby Bute’s iconic Golden Voices of Sint Maarten, Jennifer Brooks’s empowering Dear Young Black Queen, newly published My Story; transforming the wounds of childhood abuse by Naromie Pierre, a compelling adult romance by Latoya Lake’s It’s like déjà vu with you with her and Robin Boasman’s classic children’s tale Lizzy Lizard.
The exhibition also features works by distinguished authors such as Language, Culture and Identity in St. Martin by Rhoda Arrindell, PHD, and Skin by Drisana Deborah Jack, among many others.
