Sint Maarten Library continues its Passing on Our Legacy Black History Month 2026 observance with an exclusive interview featuring political analyst and author Julio R. Romney in conversation with educator and former public sector leader Glenderlin E. Holiday, M.A. Ed.
The discussion explores Romney’s personal journey, his work, and notable figures from the African Diaspora and Sint Maarten. Romney, a Sint Maartener scholar of Comparative Government and Politics, has over 30 years of experience in public opinion research, development administration, and political analysis.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Political Science, a Master of Public Administration with concentrations in Public Policy Formulation, Evaluation, and Foreign Relations, and a Doctorate in Comparative Government & Politics. He is the author of Sint Maarten: Our Constituent State Constitutional Framework and the research project Reckoning with Sint Maarten’s Slavery Past in the Kingdom of the Netherlands: Enslavement, Hope, and Reparatory Justice. In 2025, he received the “Bearer of Our Democratic State” award from the Parliament of Sint Maarten. Romney also serves as Incorporator and President of the Sint Maarten Institute for Public Policy Studies, promoting an informed civic culture on the island.
Holiday holds a bachelor’s degree in education from the Pedagogic Academy in Curaçao and a Master of Arts in Education (Educational Administration and Supervision) from the University of the Virgin Islands. Since 1983, she has served in education and senior public service roles, including Head of Division of Public Education Schools, Director of the Sint Maarten Library, and Chief of Operations at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth, and Sport. Recognized in 2025 as Sint Maarten’s Most Popular Legend at the Interact Legend Award Gala, she remains an active contributor to community and civic initiatives.
