The Sint Maarten Library is honoring local writers and their accomplishments during the 2024 Black History Month Observances, building on the author testimonials about their reading habits from 2023.
Legacy Reads
Featured authors of prose fiction and non-fiction, lyricists, and prolific artists will share a short passage of their published literary accomplishments, poetry, academic, and prolific works, under our selected theme "Legacy Reads."

In the spotlight each day at 10:00 am from February 16, 2024, to February 29, 2024, the Sint Maarten Library will promote our daily selected author by placing their photograph and their short autobiographies of their accomplishments. At 6:00 pm on all our social media platforms and website, the day's selected litterateur or lyricist will virtually display their reading presentations.

The objectives of Legacy Reads are to hand down the practices on traditions of cultural literature to the public going beyond stories of oppression and only highlighting our local blacks achievements.
The library invites the public to visit all its locations – Philipsburg from 9 am to 5 pm, Cay Hill, and Belvedere, 2:30 pm –6 pm to view our exhibition. On exhibition are featured books by local authors, the African Diaspora Collection.

Related e-books are available via the Overdrive Libby App, the Digital Library of the Caribbean (dLOC), and the KB- Nationale Bibliotheek, the Royal Library of the Netherlands.
