A lively group of 19 curious and enthusiastic Group 5 (Grade 3) students from Sister Magda Primary School brought energy and excitement to the Sint Maarten Library
during a special class excursion, where they explored the wonders of the public library and discovered how it will support their future learning journey.

The visiting students discovered that the Sint Maarten Library is far more than a place for books. It is a safe, inclusive space that inspires young minds to explore stories, gain knowledge, and imagine freely.

The visit began with an engaging, age-appropriate introduction to the purpose and value of a public library.
A fun and interactive explanation were included of the expected behaviors when visiting a public library, whether during school excursions or with their families.

From using indoor voices to taking good care of borrowed books, students quickly grasped the importance of being responsible library users.
As part of the program’s efforts to promote respectful library behavior, students were treated to a humorous and educational video featuring Cookie Monster at the library—sparking laughter while underscoring that not all questions are appropriate in that setting.

A classic Mr. Bean skit followed the segment set in a rare book library, using comedy to highlight proper library etiquette and the importance of handling materials with care in a memorable way.
The highlight of the day was a hands-on Book Hunt Assignment, where students stretched their legs and set off on a mission to discover various genres within the fiction and non-fiction collections.

They excitedly read spine labels, explored shelves, and matched books to their specific learning needs, which was all part of preparing for an upcoming class project.

The assignment encouraged active engagement with the library’s collection and gave students the tools to choose books that best support their research and interests.

In a proud and promising outcome, 13 students officially registered as members of the Sint Maarten Library, with all 19 students selecting and borrowing books to take home.

The librarian carefully chose titles to support their school assignments, ensuring that the visit had both immediate and lasting educational value.

“We are thrilled to see the excitement on the youngsters’ faces as they explored the library and began their reading adventures,” said librarian M. Powell, “It is wonderful to witness young minds discovering how empowering and enjoyable reading can be.”

The Sint Maarten Library encourages all students to continue visiting the library — not just for schoolwork, but for the pure joy of reading. With their new library cards in hand, these young scholars are now fully equipped to return, explore more books, and feed their growing curiosity.
