This holiday season, the Sint Maarten Library, in collaboration with The Libraries at School / de Bibliotheek op School, is spreading the joy of reading to children across the island.
Supported by Stichting Lezen and Biblionet Groningen, the initiative provides age- appropriate books in English, Dutch, Spanish, and Creole, creating vibrant reading spaces in
schools and day care centers. School libraries are more than just a place for books, they help children become confident readers, making reading a part of everyday learning, supporting literacy, and ensuring that all children have access to books and materials.

The pilot program began at Brighter Child and Ingrid’s Home day care centers, offering children the chance to explore literature in welcoming and stimulating environments. Karen Seymour, Brighter Child Day Care: The Library’s support is invaluable. These books will nurture and encourage our children love for reading.

Miss Ingrid, Ingrid’s Home Day Care: Thanks to the Library and the Bibliotheek op School, our children are excited to explore the
new books. Our library corner has become a warm, inviting space for reading.

This initiative demonstrates how collaboration between schools, libraries, and communities can foster literacy, motivation, and a lifelong love of reading. The Sint Maarten Library plans to expand the program to more day cares, primary, and secondary schools across the island.
