As part of its ongoing commitment to lifelong learning and empowering young people, the Sint Maarten Library took part in the Oranje School’s 2025 Leaving Activity for Group 8 (formerly Grade 6) by presenting an interactive Financial Literacy Game Session.
In today’s rapidly evolving financial landscape, where financial literacy is more crucial than ever, the Sint Maarten Library remains committed to equipping the island’s youth with the tools and knowledge they need to develop a solid understanding of money management and succeed in life.
The interactive gaming session builds on the momentum of the Financial Literacy Month, celebrated in November 2024 and spearheaded by the Ministry of Finance. The Library's continued involvement reflects its ongoing effort to bridge formal education with practical life skills, ensuring that students are well-prepared for the challenges and opportunities of the future.
“We believe that understanding how money works is a foundational life skill,” said librarian M. Powell of the Sint Maarten Library. “By introducing financial literacy in a fun, age-appropriate way, we’re not only educating, but also inspiring our young people to make sound financial decisions as they grow.”
Recognizing that students learn in different ways, the Library carefully selected interactive tools and resources to meet diverse learning needs. The session featured games such as "Managing My Allowance" by Learning Advantage and The Money Game, which help students grasp concepts like identifying currency, performing basic math, making change, and applying money management in real-world situations. These tools made learning both accessible and enjoyable.
The Sint Maarten Library’s presence at the Oranje School’s leaving activity also served to celebrate the academic and personal milestones students have reached in the 2024–2025 school year—a year of growth, resilience, and new beginnings.
“Education does not stop at the school gate,” Ms. Powell continued. “The Sint Maarten Library is proud to be a hub where young people can continue to grow, explore, and connect what they learn in school with real-life experiences and community engagement.”
As students move forward to the next chapter of their lives, the Sint Maarten Library invites them—and all members of the community—to take full advantage of its broad range of resources, programs, and services designed to support learning at every stage of life.
