About the Role We, at the Sint Maarten Library are seeking a dynamic Library Operations Officer to join our team.
This key position is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the library, supervising staff, managing resources and budgets, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality services to the community. The role supports the General Manager in strategic planning, administrative leadership, and building partnerships with library support groups.
Key Responsibilities
Staff Supervision and Management
• Supervise, evaluate, and support library staff across various departments.
• Assist in hiring, training, and implementing personnel policies.
• Act on behalf of the General Manager in his absence.
Operational Management
• Oversee daily library operations, particularly during times of limited resources, staff transitions, or major projects.
• Support budget preparation, tracking, financial and operating reporting.
• Implement systems and policies to improve operational efficiency.
• Oversee library technology planning and vendor coordination.
• Participate in library-wide activities including collection development and program planning.
Community Engagement and Support
• Collaborate with library support groups, prepare reports, attend meetings, and assist with event planning.
• Respond to public inquiries and represent the library in a professional manner.
• Promote a positive and inclusive library experience for all patrons.
Strategic Planning and Evaluation
• Assist with long-term planning and development of library programs and services.
• Conduct needs assessments and evaluate the impact of library initiatives.
• Contribute to the growth of the library’s digital presence, including website and social media.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
• 3–5 years of progressively responsible administrative experience, preferably in libraries, government, or nonprofit sectors.
• Experience in budget preparation, board communication, and project management is essential.
Knowledge of:
• Public library systems and services,
• Budget planning and financial reporting,
• Modern library technologies and automated systems,
• Governmental procedures and community engagement practices.
Skills and Abilities:
• Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Effective communication in both written and spoken English.
• Working proficiency of the Dutch language
• Ability to work collaboratively across departments and with external partners
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other office software
Additional Information
• Must be able to work evenings and weekends as required.
• Position may involve participation in high-profile community events, grant writing, or fundraising efforts.
• In possession of a valid driver's license.
