World Literacy Day: Inspiring a Love of Reading from the Start

In celebration of World Literacy Day, the Sint Maarten Library brought early literacy to life through its Early Learners BookStart Campaign and “Drop Everything and Read” initiative.

Children ages 2 to 3 from Ingrid’s Home Center enjoyed a reading by reader D. Mathew York of the local children’s book Ignacio and the Mysterious Egg, written by Joyce Arnell.

The reading was followed by a fun, book-related activity, dancing, and Rhyme time with M. Spencer. A special highlight of the celebration was welcoming 10 new young members to the Sint Maarten Library.
The children proudly their very first library cards, marking the beginning of their journey as young library members and readers. A love of reading starts early, and these little readers are already taking their first steps toward a lifelong relationship with books, learning, and discovery.
