Teenagers outreach program: reading freaks me out.

On Wednesday, September 22, 2021, the Philipsburg Jubilee Library features another virtual book discussion. The book that will be discussed is Dear Young Black Queen, written by local author Jennifer Brooks. A group of teenagers was selected to read and analyze this book about the empowerment of young people; both female and male. The discussion will be facilitated by Angelique Gumbs.

Library’s Poetry Month Concludes with Prize-Giving Ceremony

The end of the Poetry month at the library was heralded with a closing-off ceremony for the poetry contest where members of the general public could submit their poems. During a small ceremony that took place outdoors on the library’s patio, a selection of persons who submitted their poems were invited to recite their poems.

This year’s annual “Recreational Program”, will be held throughout
July 2021 currently registration is open to the public.
The activities that the general public can take part in during this program consist of Zumba, a Puppet show, Physical fitness, Cycling and much more.

This month the library will be hosting a poetry workshop and a poetry contest. Learn the magic of words, rhyme and expression in the library’s educational workshop and/or compete for wonderful prizes by submitting your heartfelt poem or poetic song in the library’s poetry contest. In addition to the upcoming poetry activities, the library is also expanding its e-book collection with more books about poetry.

On January 20, 2021, the Philipsburg Jubilee Library opened the doors of its first satellite for Public use at in the Cay Hill and surrounding neighbourhoods. A Satellite Library is a decentralized location of the main library, to improve accessibility and visibility in the community and to promote, stimulate, and encourage reading.
